BA15d is a 15mm cap with parallel pins and 2 contacts both being live, the cap body being earth, often used in pre 1950 head lamps and early stop/tail lamps
BAY15d is a 15mm cap with staggered pins and 2 contacts both being live, the cap body being earth, commonly used in stop/tail lamps on post 1960 cars
The general rule is - Use a red bulb behind a red lens
